Garrett Sutton, a graduate of University of California, Berkeley and Hastings Law School had his life turned upside down when his two-year-old son was diagnosed with autism. Fortunately, living in Reno, the UNR Early Childhood Autism Program was available to the family.
The program had amazing results, “They basically brought him out of it,” Sutton said. In the midst of the joy Sutton’s family experienced, he realized that not every family could afford the $2,000 a month treatment.
He had the idea to form a scholarship program to benefit the families who need help and thus the Sierra Kids Foundation was formed. Almost all the money raised goes to scholarships. “It’s been really satisfying to know we’re able to help other families,” Sutton said.
